CTV Programming Highlights: Feb. 2 – 12

The month of February scores a touchdown with SUPER BOWL XLVI, immediately followed by the special season premiere of hit series THE VOICE. February also welcomes two new series with premieres of the highly-anticipated musical drama SMASH, and the mysterious paranormal thriller THE RIVER.

Programming Highlights for Feb. 2 – 12 on CTV include:

• NASA astronaut Mike Massimino guest stars on THE BIG BANG THEORY (Feb. 2)
• Dean Winters (30 ROCK) guest stars on UP ALL NIGHT (Feb. 2)
• Academy Award®-winning F. Murray Abraham (AMADEUS) guest stars on BLUE BLOODS (Feb. 3)
• SUPER BOWL SUNDAY kicks off with ROAD TO THE SUPER BOWL, followed by the SUPER BOWL XLVI PRE-GAME SHOW, leading into the first kickoff as the New York Giants and New England Patriots go head-to-head in hopes of becoming the SUPER BOWL XLVI champions (Feb. 5)
• Following SUPER BOWL XLVI, hit vocal competition series THE VOICE returns with a sizzling Season 2 (Feb. 5)
• The stage is set for the highly-anticipated series premiere of the musical drama SMASH (Feb. 6)
• Emmy Award®-winner Jane Curtin (THIRD ROCK FROM THE SUN) joins the cast of UNFORGETTABLE (Feb. 7)

Thursday, Feb. 2
8 p.m. – THE BIG BANG THEORY – “The Friendship Contraction” – NEW EPISODE

Sheldon’s (Jim Parsons) selfish demands force Leonard (Johnny Galecki) to reconsider their friendship, and Wolowitz (Simon Helberg) attempts to pick his astronaut nickname. NASA astronaut Mike Massimino guest stars as himself.

8:30 p.m. – UP ALL NIGHT – “Preschool Auction” – NEW EPISODE
Reagan (Christina Applegate) is determined to get Amy into a prestigious preschool and volunteers to spearhead the school’s annual fundraiser, enlisting Ava (Maya Rudolph) to help her run a charity auction. Meanwhile, when Chris’s (Will Arnett) older brother (guest star Dean Winters, 30 ROCK) comes to visit, the two Brinkley boys revert to their old competitive childhood ways.

9 p.m. – GREY’S ANATOMY – “If/Then” – NEW EPISODE
In an episode that shows Seattle Grace as it never was – but could have been – Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) wonders “what if.” She wonders what would have happened if her mother never had Alzheimer’s and she had loving and supportive parents? What if she never met Derek (Patrick Dempsey), and what if Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Owen (Kevin McKidd) had become a couple long before she met Arizona (Jessica Capshaw)?

10 p.m. – THE MENTALIST – “Red is the New Black” – NEW EPISODE
Jane (Simon Baker) and the CBI narrow down the list of suspects in the murder of a disgraced clothing designer. Meanwhile, FBI Agent Darcy (Catherine Dent) continues her Red John investigation.

Friday, Feb. 3
8 p.m. – CSI: NY – “Brooklyn Til I Die” – NEW EPISODE

The CSIs investigate when a role-playing game turns lethal. While one player becomes the victim of a bona fide killer, another is kidnapped and held for ransom.

9 p.m. – GRIMM – “Organ Grinder” – NEW EPISODE
Nick (David Guintoli) discovers the Grimm world has an unusual use for human organs during an investigation. While searching for answers, Nick and Juliette (Bitsie Tulloch) befriend a pair of homeless siblings, Hanson (guest star Daryl Sabara, Spy Kids) and Gracie (guest star Hannah Marks, NECESSARY ROUGHNESS), whose friends have gone missing.

10 p.m. – BLUE BLOODS – “The Job” – NEW EPISODE
Danny's (Donnie Wahlberg) family deals with the ramifications of being caught in the crossfire between him and a gunman. Meanwhile, Frank (Tom Selleck) deals with 9/11 guilt triggered by the impending loss of a friend he worked with at Ground Zero. Academy Award®-winning F. Murray Abraham (AMADEUS) guest stars as Leon Goodwin.

Saturday, Feb. 4
7 p.m. – W5 – NEW EPISODE

In the first story, “Pull the Plug,” W5 asks “who decides when you die?” with a look at two cases at Toronto’s Sunnybrook Hospital where the families and doctors have different opinions on how much should be done to prolong a patient’s life. In the second story, “Watson’s War,” W5 reports on eco-activism’s “enfant terrible,” Paul Watson.

8 p.m. – CTV MOVIE – TRANSFORMERS (2007)
In the film TRANSFORMERS, Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf, Eagle Eye) becomes involved in a war between the heroic Autobots and the evil Decepticons – two factions of alien robots who can disguise themselves by transforming into everyday machines. The Decepticons seek control of the AllSpark, an object that would empower them to build an army by giving life to all the machines on Earth. Megan Fox (Jennifer’s Body), and Josh Duhamel (Life As We Know It) also star in the action film.

Sunday, Feb. 5
12 p.m. – ROAD TO THE SUPER BOWL

Produced by Emmy Award®-winning NFL Films, ROAD TO THE SUPER BOWL captures the most dramatic moments and sound bites of the 2011 NFL season, from opening kickoff through the AFC and NFC Championship Games.

1 p.m. – NFL – SUPER BOWL XLVI – PRE-GAME
Co-hosts Bob Costas and Dan Patrick are live from Lucas Oil Stadium for the SUPER BOWL XLVI PRE-GAME SHOW. Joining Costas and Patrick are Super Bowl-winning head coach Tony Dungy, two-time Super Bowl winner Rodney Harrison, Mike Florio and Peter King of Sports Illustrated for up-to-the-minute news and features leading up to kickoff. Patrick can also be heard all week leading up to SUPER BOWL XLVI on TSN Radio 1050 in Toronto.

6 p.m. – NFL – SUPER BOWL XLVI
The New England Patriots and the New York Giants go head-to-head for the Vince Lombardi trophy in SUPER BOWL XLVI live from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, IN. The teams last met in SUPER BOWL XLII, when the Giants came from behind to defeat the heavily-favoured Patriots, who boasted a perfect season record going into the NFL’s championship game.

10 p.m. – THE VOICE – SEASON PREMIERE
The second season of THE VOICE scores the most coveted timeslot in primetime television premiering after SUPER BOWL XLVI. During the Season 2 premiere, superstar coaches Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton reunite to pick all-new teams in the first round of blind auditions.

Monday, Feb. 6
8 p.m. – THE VOICE – NEW TWO-HOUR EPISODE

The second part of the “blind auditions” continue as the superstar coaches search and pick artists to join their respective teams.

10 p.m. – SMASH – “Pilot” – SERIES PREMIERE
In the highly-anticipated premiere of the new series SMASH, the hit-making Broadway team of Julia Houston (Debra Messing) and Tom Levitt (Christian Borle) unite with producer Eileen Rand (Anjelica Huston) to create a new musical based on the life of Marilyn Monroe. Broadway newcomer Karen Cartwright (Katherine McPhee) and seasoned chorus girl, Ivy Lynn (Megan Hilty), compete for the dream role. Jack Davenport, Raza Jaffrey, Brian d'Arcy James and Jaime Cepero also star.

Tuesday, Feb. 7
8 p.m. – UNFORGETTABLE – “Carrie’s Caller” – NEW EPISODE – SPECIAL TIME

A serial killer with knowledge of Carrie’s (Poppy Montgomery) memory abilities, taunts the Queens PD as his list of victims grows. Emmy Award®-winner Jane Curtin (THIRD ROCK FROM THE SUN) joins the cast as Medial Examiner Joanne Webster.

9 p.m. – THE RIVER – “Pilot/Marbeley” – TWO-HOUR SERIES PREMIERE
In the exciting series premiere of paranormal thriller THE RIVER, Dr. Emmet Cole (Bruce Greenwood), beloved adventurer and television personality, goes missing in the Amazon. Six months later, the search is called off and Dr. Cole is presumed dead. However, his wife Tess (Leslie Hope) and son Lincoln (Joe Anderson) have reason to believe he is still alive. To fund the rescue, Tess and Lincoln agree to let Dr. Cole’s cagey ex-producer, Clark (Paul Blackthorne), film the mission documentary-style. A crew is gathered to continue the search and is faced with having to solve horrifying and haunting mysteries.

Wednesday, Feb. 8
7 p.m. – DARKNESS AND HOPE: DEPRESSION, SPORTS AND ME – NEW DOCUMENTARY

The CTV original documentary DARKNESS AND HOPE: DEPRESSION, SPORTS AND ME features TSN Broadcaster and OFF THE RECORD host Michael Landsberg as he guides viewers on the journey from depression to recovery and hope in the context of the world of sports. Sports heroes including Olympian and Bell Let’s Talk Day spokesperson Clara Hughes, hockey’s Stéphane Richer, and baseball’s Darryl Strawberry reveal intimate details of a struggle familiar to millions of Canadians.

8 p.m. – AMERICAN IDOL – NEW EPISODE
Auditions continue as superstar judging panel Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler sit through more good, bad and outrageous auditions in search for the next singing superstar in the eighth round of auditions.

9 p.m. – CRIMINAL MINDS – “Snake Eyes” – NEW EPISODE
The BAU team is called in to investigate a series of casino-related murders in Atlantic City. Meanwhile, Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness) thinks she and Morgan (Shemar Moore) may have become a little too close to each other.

10 p.m. – CSI – “Tressed to Kill” – NEW EPISODE
When a woman is found dead in vintage clothes with her hair styled into a 70s look, the CSI team discovers clues that point to a killer with a hair fetish.

Thursday, Feb. 9
8 p.m. – THE BIG BANG THEORY – “The Vacation Solution” – NEW EPISODE

8:30 p.m. – UP ALL NIGHT – “Day After Valentine’s Day” – NEW EPISODE
When Ava (Maya Rudolph) and Kevin (Jason Lee) have an epic blowout, Reagan (Christina Applegate) and Chris (Will Arnett) find themselves wishing for some relationship drama, and unintentionally end up creating some of their own.

9 p.m. – GREY’S ANATOMY – “All You Need is Love” – NEW EPISODE
Valentine’s Day brings excitement to all the couples at Seattle Grace. Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) try to have a night to themselves when Lexie (Chyler Leigh) offers to watch Zola. Meanwhile, the ER fills with romantics, including a 10-year-old girl who has an allergic reaction to chocolate, and a man who is hit by a car while chasing his frustrated girlfriend.

10 p.m. – THE MENTALIST – “At First Blush” – NEW EPISODE
Jane (Simon Baker) tries to help prove the innocence of a woman who is currently on trial for murder before time runs out. Meanwhile, Summer (guest star Samaire Armstrong, DIRTY SEXY MONEY) may have gone too far when she helps Cho (Tim Kang) make a case against a suspect. Diane Farr (NUMB3RS) also guest stars as Amy Barron, the accused murderer's best friend.

Friday, Feb. 10
8 p.m. – CSI: NY – “The Ripple Effect” – NEW EPISODE

When the CSIs investigate two seemingly unrelated deaths, the separate trails of evidence lead to a surprising connection.

9 p.m. – GRIMM – “Tarantella” – NEW EPISODE
Nick (David Guintoli) and Hank (Russel Hornsby) are on the hunt for a deadly heartbreaker who has left behind a string of homicides. Meanwhile, Nick’s growing recognition among the creature world starts to threaten his and Juliette’s (Bitsie Tulloch) safety.

10 p.m. – BLUE BLODDS – “Leap of Faith” – NEW EPISODE
When a rich woman dies of a heart attack, her daughter claims God told her that her mother was actually murdered by her stepfather (guest star Timothy Busfield, WEST WING). Meanwhile, Frank (Tom Selleck) is asked by the archbishop for his support for the canonization of a local priest.

When Melanie (Valerie Bertinelli) suspects Joy (Jane Leeves) might be using drugs, she recruits their neighbour Rick (Wayne Knight) to help her find out the truth. Meanwhile, Elka (Betty White) teaches Victoria (Wendie Malick) how to act old for a musical version of the OSCAR®-winning film Driving Miss Daisy.

8 p.m. – ONCE UPON A TIME – “Skin Deep” – NEW EPISODE
When Mr. Gold’s (Robert Carlyle) house gets robbed, he decides to track down the criminal and dole out some vigilant justice. Meanwhile, Mary Margaret (Ginnifer Goodwin) and the girls have a night out for Valentine’s Day, and in the fairytale land that was, Belle (guest star Emilie de Ravin, LOST) agrees to a fateful deal to save her town from the horrors of the Ogre war.

9 p.m. – DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES – “Is This What You Call Love?” – NEW EPISODE
Susan (Teri Hatcher) is shocked when she discovers that her daughter Julie (Andrea Bowen) is pregnant. Meanwhile, Gaby's (Eva Longoria) attempt to sooth Juanita (Madison de la Garza) when she doesn't receive a Valentine's Day card from a boy she has a crush on, backfires.

10 p.m. – PAN AM – “Romance Languages” – NEW EPISODE
There's love, loss and drama in the eternal city when the flight crew lands in Rome, Italy.
