Toronto, ON (May 8, 2012) – It was announced today that global superstar Rihanna will take to the AMERICAN IDOL stage to perform her latest smash hit “Where Have You Been,” during the two-hour live finale Wednesday, May 23 at 8 p.m. ET on CTV (visit ctv.ca to confirm local listings). The grand finale, which will crown this year’s AMERICAN IDOL winner, will also feature additional performances by some of music’s biggest artists.
With only three performance shows left before the winner is revealed, the Top Four – Hollie Cavanagh, Joshua Ledet, Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez – take to the AMERICAN IDOL stage tomorrow, Wednesday, May 9 at 8 p.m. ET on CTV, to sing for America’s votes during a California Dreamin’-themed performance show, before the Top 3 are revealed Thursday, May 10 at 8 p.m. ET on CTV Two. During the results show, AMERICAN IDOL judge Jennifer Lopez will perform her hit new song, “Dance Again,” and Season 7 AMERICAN IDOL winner David Cook will perform “The Last Song I’ll Write For You.”
The two-night AMERICAN IDOL finale event will air live from the Nokia Theatre L.A. on Tuesday, May 22 at 8 p.m. ET and Wednesday, May 23 at 8 p.m. ET on CTV, as the two remaining finalists will perform in front of a theatre audience of more than 7000, as well as viewers watching at home. Then, on Wednesday night, host Ryan Seacrest will announce the next AMERICAN IDOL.
“Where Have You Been,” from Rihanna's Island Def Jam album Talk That Talk, released last November, is the artist’s latest single. Rihanna made Billboard history last year, when “We Found Love,” another single off of Talk That Talk, became her 11th #1 hit on the Hot 100 and her 20th Top 10 hit. She collected her 20 Hot 100 Top 10 singles faster than any other solo artist – six years and four months – and places second only to the Beatles. Additionally, “We Found Love” gives Rihanna her 16th #1 Billboard Dance single.
