CTV Programming Highlights: May 16–31
CTV finishes off May with the season finales of AMERICAN IDOL, GREY’S ANATOMY, THE MENTALIST, LAW AND ORDER: SVU and GRIMM. Plus, season premieres of THE LISTENER, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE and exclusive live coverage of THE 2012 BILLBOARD MUSIC AWARDS.

Programming Highlights for May 16-31 on CTV include:
• The doctors fight to stay alive while trying to save the lives of their peers in the season finale of GREY’S ANATOMY (May 17)
• Emmanuelle Chriqui (THE BORGIAS) guest stars on the finale of THE MENTALIST (May 17)
• In the season finale of GRIMM, Nick (David Giuntoli) delves deeper into his life as a Grimm (May 18)
• THE 2012 BILLBOARD MUSIC AWARDS (May 20) features performances by Canadian heartthrob Justin Bieber, as well as Carrie Underwood, THE VOICE’s Cee Lo Green, and hosted by Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell.
• The final two celebrities are joined by their dance partners in the season finale of DANCING WITH THE STARS (May 22)
• Global superstar Rihanna takes to the stage to perform her latest smash hit “Where Have You Been,” during the live two-hour finale of AMERICAN IDOL (May 23)
• The pursuit of “America’s Favourite Dancer” begins on the Season 9 premiere of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE (May 24)
• David Eigenberg (SEX AND THE CITY) and Patrick Fischler (One for the Money) guest star on LAW AND ORDER: SVU before the SVUs investigate a bachelor party gone wrong on the gripping season finale (May 24)
• Toby Logan (Craig Olejnik) decides to ignore his telepathic abilities and live a normal life when CTV Original series THE LISTENER returns for its third gripping season (May 30)

Wednesday, May 16
8 p.m. – AMERICAN IDOL – LIVE – 2 HOURS
With the finale less than one week away, the competition reaches a fever pitch as Joshua Ledet, Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez battle it out on another all-new live performance show.
10 p.m. – LAW AND ORDER: SVU – “Strange Beauty” – NEW EPISODE
While off-duty, Detective Rollins (Kelli Giddish) spots a young woman screaming in the back of a moving taxi, and the SVU squad identifies the victim as a rebellious teenager, estranged from her family and experimenting in the world of tattoos and self-mutilation. The case takes an unexpected turn when the medical examiner (Tamara Tunie) presents the detectives with a cleanly severed leg, reminiscent of a similar finding in an old unsolved case.
Thursday, May 17
8 p.m. – MISSING – “Rain on the Evil and on the Good” – SEASON FINALE – SPECIAL DAY
Becca (Ashley Judd) faces her inner demons in a last ditch effort to save her son, Michael (Nick Eversman). Meanwhile, Suspect Zero (Keith Carradine) tries to complete his sale.
9 p.m. – GREY’S ANATOMY – “Flight” – SEASON FINALE
Faced with a life threatening situation, the doctors must fight to stay alive while trying to save the lives of their peers. Bailey (Chandra Wilson) and Ben (Jason George) make a decision about their relationship and Teddy (Kim Raver) is presented with a tempting offer.
10 p.m. – THE MENTALIST – “The Crimson Hat” – SEASON FINALE
The CBI investigates the murder of John Doe while Jane (Simon Baker) hits rock bottom in a Las Vegas club where he meets cocktail waitress Lorelei Martins (Canadian Emmanuelle Chriqui, THE BORGIAS).
Friday, May 18
9 p.m. – GRIMM – “The Woman in Black” – SEASON FINALE
As Nick (David Giuntoli) delves deeper into his life as a Grimm, a trail of grotesque murders reignites the search for the elusive gold coins. The arrival of a mysterious woman in black (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Scarface) gets in the way of Nick and Hank’s (Russell Hornsby) investigation as extra precautions have to be taken to ensure their safety.
Saturday, May 19
7 p.m. – W5 – “All That Glitters” and “Baby Steps”
Revisiting two episodes from the past season, W5 investigates smooth-talking fraudsters who bilk Canadians out of millions; and shares the true love story of Canadian soldier Trevor and Debbie Greene.
Sunday, May 20
7 p.m. – MIKE & MOLLY – “Molly Can’t Lie” – NEW EPISODE
When Mike (Bill Gardell) and Molly (Melissa McCarthy) meet with the priest at Peggy’s church, Molly’s forthright nature winds up costing them their wedding chapel.
8 p.m. – THE 2012 BILLBOARD MUSIC AWARDS – LIVE
THE 2012 BILLBOARD MUSIC AWARDS features performances by megawatt stars including Canada’s own Justin Bieber, country music sensation Carrie Underwood, CTV’s THE VOICE Cee Lo Green, party rockers LMFAO and British-Irish boy band The Wanted. The awards air live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and are hosted by Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell.
Monday, May 21
8 p.m. – DANCING WITH THE STARS – LIVE
During the final performance show, the two remaining celebrities are joined by their dance partners and perform live for judges Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli.
Tuesday, May 22
8 p.m. – AMERICAN IDOL – PART ONE: SEASON FINALE – LIVE
The top two finalists take to the stage to battle it out live during the last performance show of the season at the NOKIA Theatre L.A. With America’s votes, one contestant will be crowned the next AMERICAN IDOL.
9 p.m. – DANCING WITH THE STARS – SEASON FINALE – LIVE – 2 HOURS
The final two celebrities are joined by their dance partners and perform live for judges Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli to determine the next winner of DANCING WITH THE STARS.
Wednesday, May 23
8 p.m. – AMERICAN IDOL – PART TWO: SEASON FINALE – LIVE – 2 HOURS
During the two-hour live season finale, the Top 12 will reunite on stage one last time before host Ryan Seacrest reveals the newest AMERICAN IDOL. Global superstar Rihanna will perform her latest smash hit “Where Have You Been,” as well as additional performances by some of music’s biggest artists.
Thursday, May 24
8 p.m. – SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE – SEASON PREMIERE – 2 HOURS – SPECIAL DAY
Back for its ninth season, the Emmy®-nominated hit dance competition series, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE, kicks off with a two-hour premiere. This season’s auditions in New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Dallas and Salt Lake City feature host Cat Deeley and resident judges Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy, as well as guest judges Adam Shankman, Debbie Allen, Tyce Diorio, Lil’ C, Canadian Stacey Tookey and Jesse Tyler Ferguson.
10 p.m. – LAW AND ORDER: SVU – “Rhodium Nights” – SEASON FINALE – SPECIAL DAY
An underage escort is found dead at a wild bachelor party, and Captain Cragen (Dann Florek) cautions his team to investigate with discretion, as there were several high-profile people at the scene. In their efforts to question a well-known leader in the New York escort world (Peter Jacobson, HOUSE), Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Amaro (Danny Pino) encounter former SVU detective Brian Cassidy (Dean Winters, P.S. I Love You), who’s been working undercover. With his help, the detectives dig deeper into a vicious power struggle between the two top escort businesses.
Saturday, May 26
7 p.m. – W5 –“Used & Abused” and “Senior’s Moments”
Combining two episodes from the past season, W5 goes undercover to investigate used car sales and violence in long-term care facilities.
Sunday, May 27
8 p.m. – CTV MOVIE – IT’S COMPLICATED (2009) – CANADIAN NETWORK PREMIERE
In the Golden Globe® Award-winning film IT’S COMPLICATED, brought together at a family event, Jane (Academy Award®-winner Meryl Streep, The Iron Lady) hooks up with her ex-husband, Jake (Golden Globe® Award-winner Alec Baldwin, 30 ROCK), who is married to Agnes (Lake Bell, HOW TO MAKE IT IN AMERICA), the younger woman he left Jane for. If being your ex’s mistress and hiding the affair from their kids isn’t tough enough, Jane also finds herself drawn to Adam (Golden Globe® Award-nominee Steve Martin, The Pink Panther), a smitten architect. While Jane and Jake still maintain other romances, the complications cannot help but mount as the couple continues with their affair.
10:30 p.m. – MIKE & MOLLY – “Bachelor/Bachelorette” – NEW EPISODE
When Mike’s (Bill Gardell) dad arrives early for his son’s bachelor party, Peggy (Rondi Reed) decides she should attend Molly’s (Melissa McCarthy) bachelorette bash, and proceeds to turn it into a raucous affair.
Wednesday, May 30
8 p.m. – SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE – NEW EPISODE – 2 HOURS

10 p.m. –THE LISTENER – “The Bank Job” – SEASON PREMIERE
Due to the mental strain of his telepathic abilities, and the continued warnings from Dr. Olivia Fawcett (Mylčne Dinh-Robic, STARGATE ATLANTIS) about the toll they are taking on his health, Toby (Craig Olejnik) decides to ignore them and live a normal life. But his good intentions are tested when he’s taken hostage during a bank heist, and the only way to ensure the safety of the other hostages is to risk his own. While Toby’s efforts help Sgt. McCluskey (Lauren Lee Smith) with the bank heist investigation, they also land him in another precarious situation when she’s forced to reveal the truth about his abilities to her boss Alvin Klein (Peter Stebbings, MURDOCH MYSTERIES).
