Barrie, ON (June 12, 2012) – CTV News helps cottagers beat the traffic and get a jump start on weekends this summer with the new CTV News Cottage Traffic App. Available at CTVbarrie.ca or popular app download sites, the CTV News Cottage Traffic App is free to all users, and can be easily downloaded to smartphones.

The app uses the built-in GPS technology on phones, and offers safe, personalized and timely audio traffic information. Powered by users running the app while they drive, traffic information is automatically updated to other users behind them. The system also uses historical traffic patterns along with weather, time of day and seasonal information to predict the traffic ahead. App users are encouraged to safely report any traffic issues on their route to the cottage, which ultimately helps all other drivers on the same route.

The CTV News Cottage Traffic App will soon be a best friend to drivers from the GTA and Southern Ontario heading through Barrie to cottage destinations such as Collingwood, Wasaga Beach, Midland, Orilla, Brechin, Port Severn, Gravenhurst, Bracebridge, Bala, and as far north as Huntsville and Parry Sound.

“The CTV News Cottage Traffic app gives you fast and accurate information on routes north, 24 hours a day,” says Ruth Anderson, News Director, CTV Barrie. “It’s free, easy and hands free – as you drive you hear audio alerts about slowdowns or accidents up to 20 km ahead.”
