Edmonton, AB (August 7, 2012) – Michelle English has been named the 2012 CTV Citizen Of The Year. The announcement was made yesterday from the swearing in of new Canadians held at the Heritage Amphitheatre today during the Servus Heritage Festival.
The Citizen Of The Year Award was created by CTV Edmonton in partnership with the Edmonton Heritage Festival Association to recognize those caring and compassionate individuals who have contributed to the promotion, awareness, understanding, and appreciation for cultural diversity.
Ms. English was nominated by 24 residents of the Good Samaritan Wedman House.
“If we had more people like Michelle, those in Edmonton senior residences would never be lonely,” said the residents who signed her nomination.
Michelle started her lifelong commitment of compassion and care for others as a teenager when she accompanied her mother on a three year trip to teach in Africa. Since then she has been a model of community involvement, culminating in her dedication to the residents of Good Samaritan Wedman House.
“CTV congratulates Ms. English on being selected as the 2012 Citizen Of The Year,” said Lloyd Lewis, CTV Edmonton Vice-President and General Manager. “She represents the very best of our city.”
